PSD field staff recently visited 171 residential new construction sites to evaluate the effectiveness of energy code implementation in eastern Pennsylvania. Of the problem areas we identified, duct leakage came out as the biggest source of energy waste. This program will discuss residential energy code requirements impacting HVAC contractors and how to improve duct system performance with a focus on duct leakage.

Topics covered will include:

  • HVAC-related energy code requirements for new residential construction
  • Consequences of excessive duct leakage and benefits of sealing
  • Field study findings regarding duct leakage
  • Common leakage areas and best practice duct sealing techniques
  • Duct leakage testing
